Ecoporto Santos Extends Customs Area Use at Santos Port Until June 2024

Ecoporto Santos, a subsidiary of the Ecorodovias Group, has extended the temporary right of use for a customs area at Santos Port until June 2024. The initial extension took place last June when the 25-year lease contract was set to expire. The Port Authority of Santos (APS) signed the addendum to allow the STS10 bidding process to be launched.

The terminal functions as a container storage yard, handling general cargo and vehicles, covering an area of 88,365 square meters at Avenida Engenheiro Antônio Alves Freire, s/nº, in Cais do Saboó – Point 4.

The lease contract was established on June 12, 1998, and was initially set to conclude on June 11 of this year. However, with no ongoing bidding process for the area, the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq) authorized APS to enter into a temporary lease contract under the same terms and decided to extend the grant period given to the current leaseholder.

First Extension

The first extension contract for the terminal’s activities was signed last June, valid for six months, from June 12 to December 8. The company is still awaiting the final decision on the merit of the extension request (PRES/028.98).

In a statement, APS explained that since the concession model for the STS10 area is under review, the Port Authority, in coordination with the Ministry of Ports and Airports, has temporarily extended the lease for six months, now renewed for an additional six months.

“The purpose is to ensure jobs, maintain the current port handling capacity, and allow for a more detailed analysis of the STS10 lease process.”

Ecorodovias was also approached for comments but did not respond by the time of this edition’s closure.

Cooperation Agreement

On December 6, Ecoporto and APS signed a technical cooperation agreement for public safety. The deal is valid for five years and was published in yesterday’s edition of the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU).

Under the agreement, the company commits to sharing images captured by monitoring cameras on access roads to the Port of Santos with the Port Authority’s Guard and access control data.

APS, in turn, commits to using the images and data exclusively for security monitoring and access control to its restricted areas.
