Brazil unlocks two new markets in Australia and Costa Rica
Feb, 20, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202408
Brazil’s government welcomed sanitary approvals for imports issued by Australia and Costa Rica. These permissions entail seafood purchases by Australia and the entry of therapeutic products based on mesenchymal stem cells (for dogs, cats, and horses) into Costa Rica. These new markets are Brazil’s newest additions to a roster of 11 openings this year, which totaled 91 since the beginning of last year.
These market expansions are expected to bolster trade flows with these two markets and reaffirm international confidence in Brazil’s sanitary control system.
Costa Rica stands as a vital destination for Brazilian agricultural products, importing US$ 272 million in exports in 2023. Major items included cereals, flours and preparations, forest products, and soy complex products. Just in January of this year, agricultural exports to Costa Rica reached around US$ 30 million.
As for Australia, Brazil exported US$ 293 million worth of agribusiness products in 2023. Highlights included coffee, forest products, animal-origin products, and juices, accounting for 74% of Brazil’s agricultural sales to Australia. In 2024, agricultural exports to the Australian market have already surpassed US$ 24 million.
“We continue with intense efforts to open markets, showcasing Brazil’s resurgence on the international stage, underscoring its relevance and the trust countries place in Brazil’s sanitary defense. This is an effort led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply (Mapa), through the Secretariat of Agricultural Protection, widely respected worldwide, granting us the credibility to unlock new markets and set records, as we have done since last year under the leadership of Minister Carlos Fávaro,” emphasized Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Trade and International Relations at Mapa.
