Brazil records over USD 1 billion in medical devices exports
Feb, 21, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202408
Brazil’s medical device exports surged to $1.06 billion in 2023, marking a 13.69% increase compared to the previous year. Such an outcome is thrust by various factors, notably the growing sales to China, which has recently emerged as the second-largest consumer market for these Brazilian products.
Among the primary medical devices exported by the associations throughout 2023 are instruments for dentistry, orthopedic appliances, tools for use in medicine and surgery, and dental cement.
“This increase is attributed, among other factors, to the growth of exports destined for China, which in 2023 became the second-largest consumer of medical devices manufactured in Brazil. In 2022, the country ranked only 16th in the list of importing countries for these products,” stated Larissa Gomes, Manager of Projects and International Marketing at the Brazilian Association of Medical Devices Industry (Abimo).

- Surgery-Hospital: $596.12 million, a modest growth of 0.18%.
- Laboratory: Largest growth (87%).
- Rehabilitation: Growth of 25.04%, totaling $102.16 million.
