Sailors die after Houthis strike ship in Gulf of Aden

Two sailors died on the 6th after Houthi missiles hit a ship in the Gulf of Aden, marking the first deaths of commercial ship crew members since the start of the Iran-backed group’s attacks in the Red Sea.

According to The Guardian, the bulk carrier MV True Confidence, flying the flag of Barbados and owned by Liberia, caught fire after the attack, forcing the crew to abandon ship and leaving six people injured.

“At least two innocent sailors have diged. This was the sad but unavoidable consequence of the Houthis irresponsibly firing missiles at international shipping. They must stop,” the British embassy in the Yemeni capital wrote on social media.

Several vessels have been damaged since the start of the Houthi attacks in November in response to Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip. However, these are the first deaths among sailors, further escalating tensions in the Red Sea.
