Brazil obtains ‘system accreditation’ for meat exports to the Philippines

The Brazilian government announced the Filipino authorities’ recognition of the equivalence of sanitary inspection systems in both countries, specifically for Brazilian exports of beef, pork, and poultry.

In practice, in response to Brazil’s request in 2023, the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture and Inspection authorizes the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) to certify and approve exports from previously audited establishments. The agreement also includes the option of certifying other productive units that meet the established requirements. The agreement is valid for three years, beginning on February 28 of this year.

The “system accreditation” recognition attests to the high level of confidence in the national sanitary control, whose rigor is recognized by over 150 countries that consume the Brazilian products in question. This recognition will allow Brazil to increase its participation in the sector and further contribute to ensuring food security in the Asian country.

Last year, Brazil exported approximately US$ 700 million in meat to the Philippines, equivalent to 394 thousand tonnes. Meanwhile, the Philippines’ global imports of Brazilian agribusiness products totaled US$ 907.9 million, equivalent to 836 thousand tonnes of food.

This achievement is another result of the close coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa).
