Cattle: slow business in the Brazilian market; beef export rate drops
Mar, 21, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202412
Few deals involving animals slated for slaughter have been made in Brazil over the second half of March. According to researchers at Cepea, many slaughterhouses indicate prolonged scales, causing buyers to stay away from the domestic market, only acquiring new batches of animals when necessary. This scenario has weakened domestic prices for cattle.
Regarding the foreign market, Brazilian fresh beef exports slowed down in the third week of March. According to data from Secex, daily shipments were limited to 7,697 thousand tonnes until the 15th of this month, totaling only 84.67 thousand tonnes shipped in March so far.
In February, the average daily shipment volume was 9.43 thousand tonnes. In March 2023, with beef shipments to China suspended, the average daily shipment was 5.408 thousand tonnes, for a total of 124.39 thousand tonnes that month. In March 2022, the daily average was 7.7 thousand tons, which is nearly identical to the current record.
