In 2023, Brazil achieved a significant milestone as 28,524 companies exported their products worldwide, marking a historic moment for the country’s trade landscape. These findings stem from the most recent analyses carried out by the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (Secex-MDIC).
The number represented a 2% increase compared to the previous year, indicating a promising outlook for the national economic scenario.
One of the highlights of the Secex-MDIC report is the performance of companies in the North and Midwest regions. In 2023, these areas experienced the highest percentage increases in new exporting companies. The North led the way with a growth of 8.8%, closely followed by the Midwest, which saw an increase of 8%.
In contrast to these upward trajectories, the Northeast region faced a setback, with a 1.6% decrease in the number of companies engaged in foreign trade.
Among the exporting firms in Brazil, the distribution by size reveals that 59% are medium and large enterprises, while 21.2% are microenterprises and 18.9% are small businesses. Additionally, there is a group representing 0.8% of the total, composed of non-merchant companies, including non-profit or governmental entities.
Noteworthy aspects
Among the business sectors that propelled Brazilian exports last year, agriculture emerged as the leading force, witnessing a notable 7% surge among medium and large enterprises, along with a commendable 4.5% uptick among smaller ones. Similarly, the manufacturing industry exhibited growth, boasting increases of 2.6% and 1%, respectively.
