Federal Gov’t creates working groups for resumption of activities in flood-affected ports and airports

The Brazilian Government continues to prioritize assistance to municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by recent floods. To maintain ongoing efforts and oversee the resumption of operations in the state’s port and airport sectors impacted by the climate crisis, the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) has established two dedicated working groups.

The newly formed task forces will focus on the operational recovery of port and airport complexes in Rio Grande do Sul. At airports, the National Commission of Airport Authorities (Conaero) will lead the efforts, coordinated by the National Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC). Conaero’s team includes the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), International Agricultural Surveillance (Vigiagro), and the Airspace Control Department (Decea).

Port facilities will be closely monitored by members of the National Commission of Port Authorities (Conaportos). Nine entities will represent this sector, including the National Waterway Transport Agency (Antaq), the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit), Anvisa, the Federal Police, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the Navy Command, the Special Secretariat of the Federal Revenue of Brazil, the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense, and Civil Defense. The National Secretariat of Ports will coordinate these actions.

The working groups are authorized to involve representatives from companies and other relevant public and private entities in the port and airport sectors. These groups will operate for an initial period of 60 days, with the possibility of extending their mandate for an additional 60 days if necessary.
