On Tuesday, 21/05/, 12 trucks carrying 500 tonnes of aluminum ingots produced by the Maranhão Aluminum Consortium (Alumar) arrived at the Port of Fortaleza. This operation is set to continue over the next three weeks, with the total volume expected to reach between 5,000 and 8,000 tons, depending on the requirements of the exporting company, ALCOA S/A.
Export Timeline
The aluminum ingots are scheduled for export between June 10th and 15th to the Port of Trieste in Italy. The vessel assigned for this transport is the MV UNISTAR, arriving from Guyana.
Lucio Gomes, CEO of Companhia Docas do Ceará, outlined the factors that influenced ALCOA’s decision to utilize the Port of Fortaleza for this shipment. “The Port of Fortaleza offers a bonded area with ample space for storing large quantities of aluminum, alongside well-equipped berths for ship docking,” Gomes stated. He also highlighted the competitive pricing and the range of services provided by the port operators as key considerations.
2023 Performance
In 2023, the Port of Fortaleza handled 45,000 tonnes of aluminum ingots, transported on four ships to major ports across Europe. This performance underscores the port’s capability and efficiency in managing substantial cargo volumes, reinforcing its strategic importance in the global aluminum trade.
