On Tuesday, May 21, the National Waterborne Transport Agency (ANTAQ) approved an important change to the Port of Itajaí ‘s temporary lease contract. This ad referendum decision represents a major development for the port’s management and operations.
Following ANTAQ’s technical recommendations, the agency’s Collegiate Board authorized the company Seara to assume control of Mada Araújo Asset & Port Management Ltda., the current contract holder. Seara will acquire 70% of the corporate shares, enhancing its influence and responsibilities within the port’s operations.
The Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) had submitted this corporate change for ANTAQ’s review and approval on May 14. According to the resolution, the transfer of corporate control must be finalized within 180 days from May 21.
The transitional lease agreement for the Port of Itajaí, signed in December 2023, was established to lease port areas and facilities for 24 months. This arrangement aims to facilitate the movement and storage of containerized and general cargo, ensuring the port’s operational continuity while the comprehensive port infrastructure concession process is underway. The concession process has already commenced with a public hearing, signaling a move towards long-term operational stability.
This corporate restructuring and the transitional lease agreement underscore the ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the Port of Itajaí’s operational efficiency, positioning it for future growth and development in the maritime and logistics sectors.
