Brazil’s Port of São Francisco do Sul celebrates 69 years

The largest port in Santa Catarina, the Port of São Francisco do Sul, is celebrating its 69th anniversary this Monday (01) with impressive achievements that deserve attention.
In the first five months of 2024, cargo throughput at the port reached 7.3 million tonnes, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period last year (6.3 million tons). This growth represents the fifth consecutive month of increased cargo volume.
In May alone, the port saw 1.4 million tonnes, 200,000 tonnes more than in May 2023, which saw 1.2 million tonnes, reflecting a 13% increase.
The latest report from the port authority reveals that exports reached 790,000 tonnes, primarily driven by soybean shipments (750,000 tonnes) and wood shipments to the United States (18,000 tonnes). In May, imports totaled 607,000 tonnes, with metallurgical products such as steel coils and sheets accounting for 375,000 tonnes. Fertilizer imports reached 166,000 tonnes, making it the main imported cargo.
