The Port of São Francisco do Sul recorded a throughput of 8.7 million tons of goods in the first six months of this year, marking a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2023 when 7.5 million tons passed through the port in Santa Catarina.

“June was the sixth consecutive month of growth for the Port this year, even though we reached a historic record in 2023, handling 16.8 million tons,” emphasized Cleverton Vieira, president of the Port of São Francisco do Sul.

In the year’s first half, exports accounted for 59% of the cargo (5.1 million tons). Soybeans were the main product shipped abroad (4 million tons), followed by corn (910 thousand tons) and wood (103 thousand tons). Imports reached 3.6 million tons (41%), with steel products (1.9 million tons) and fertilizers (1.1 million tons) being the most significant.

“The constant increase in the volume of cargo handled by the Port of São Francisco demonstrates our versatility in serving various cargo segments, with important repercussions for several production chains,” said Vieira. He emphasized the port’s role as a multipurpose public port, noting its significance in agribusiness for receiving fertilizers and exporting grains, as well as its importance in the transportation chain for steel and other materials for the metal-mechanical industry in Santa Catarina and Brazil.

In June, the port handled 1.47 million tons, a 16.5% increase compared to the same month in 2023 (1.26 million tons). Exports reached 832 thousand tons (56%), driven mainly by soybean shipments (802 thousand tons). Steel (291 thousand tons) and fertilizers (260 thousand tons) were the main imports, totaling 644 thousand tons (44% of the total movement).
