Bahia State Port Breaks Record for First Half of The Year

The Bahia State Port Authority (CODEBA) reported a significant increase in cargo throughput at its ports for the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year. The ports of Salvador, Aratu-Candeias, and Ilhéus handled a total of 6,799,176 tonnes, marking a 9.79% rise compared to the first half of 2023. This achievement sets a new record for the company, surpassing the previous record set in the first half of 2021.

In June 2024 alone, cargo throughput reached 1,185,615 tonnes, reflecting a 15.33% increase compared to June 2023, when 1,028,051 tonnes were handled. The Port of Aratu-Candeias saw 623,963 tonnes, a 16.90% increase from the previous year’s figure of 533,741 tonnes. The Port of Salvador also performed strongly, with 561,652 tonnes handled in June, up 20.05% from the 467,855 tonnes recorded in June 2023. This growth was primarily driven by containerized cargo and bulk solids.
