Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry Hits Milestone of 100 New Markets Accessed in Eight Months

Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has reached a significant milestone, with 100 new export markets accessed in just eight months. Since the beginning of President Lula’s third term, the ministry has successfully opened 178 new markets in 58 destinations across all continents.

According to Mapa’s Secretariat of Trade and International Relations, this achievement far surpasses the figures from the past five years: in 2019, 35 new markets were opened in 22 countries; in 2020, 74 markets in 24 countries; in 2021, 77 markets in 33 countries; in 2022, 53 markets in 26 countries; and in 2023, 78 markets in 39 countries.

The monthly figures for 2024 show 26 new market openings in June (13 countries), 16 in July (9 countries), 15 in May (10 countries), 10 in March (7 countries), 7 in February (6 countries), 9 in January (5 countries), and 5 in April (3 countries).

In August so far, 11 markets have been opened: to Angola—live sheep and goats for reproduction, as well as embryos and semen of these animals; to Costa Rica—avocados; to Egypt—bone-in meat; to Panama—poultry and pork meat and offal; to the European Union—live horses; and to Indonesia—yerba mate.
