Grain Barges Collide on Paraná River; No Injuries Reported

Two Panamanian-flagged grain barges collided on kilometer 337.5 of the Paraná River near San Nicolás, Argentina, due to a communication failure between the vessels.

According to SL24, the ships Nord Singapore and Obahan C crashed into each other on the waterway. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries or environmental damage. Both vessels have been anchored for damage inspection.

Reports from pilots Osvaldo Bernacchi and Héctor Nirschl indicate that the collision was caused by communication issues between the barges.

The Obahan C, a 180-meter-long vessel carrying 30,000 tonnes of soybean meal, was en route to Ghana when it was struck by the Nord Singapore, which was traveling without cargo towards São Lourenço.

Despite the collision, there was no water infiltration into the vessels, and no contamination or injuries were reported. However, a lifeboat on the Obahan C was destroyed.

The Nord Singapore is anchored at San Nicolás North Road (Km 349), while the Obahan C is moored at Ramallo Road (Km 325). Argentine authorities have dispatched patrol BP-6239 to inspect the damage and ensure navigation safety in the area.
