Batch of blades for nearly-complete wind farm arrives at Rio Grande Port

With its first wind turbines authorized by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) for commercial operations, the Coxilha Negra wind farm in Santana do Livramento is making significant strides toward completing its construction. Of the 72 towers planned for the project, 41 have already been completed, and once fully operational, the wind farm will have an installed capacity of 302 MW.

The Port of Rio Grande is playing a crucial role in the development of this project by facilitating the arrival of essential components for the wind turbines, particularly the massive blades. Manufactured in Caucaia, Ceará, these blades are shipped to the Port of Pecém and then transported along the Brazilian coast to Rio Grande for unloading.

Last week, the tenth of 11 barges transporting a total of 216 blades arrived in Rio Grande. From there, the blades begin their final journey by road to Santana do Livramento, a city on the border with Uruguay. Due to their oversized dimensions, transporting the blades by road requires a series of safety protocols, including escort vehicles.

“We are very pleased to be part of this impressive project. The ports of Rio Grande do Sul aim to serve as the logistical hub for the Southern Cone. Renewable energy projects like this are becoming more common, and it was with the goal of being facilitators and promoters of such initiatives that we created the Port Energy Platform,” explained Cristiano Klinger, president of Portos RS.
