Brazilian agribusiness exports exceed US$ 14 billion in August

In August 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US$ 14.14 billion. Five key sectors made significant contributions: the soybean complex (31.6% share), meats (15.3%), the sugar-alcohol complex (13.5%), cereals, flours, and preparations (9.1%), and forest products (9.0%). 

Together, these sectors accounted for 78.6% of total agribusiness exports, amounting to US$11.11 billion. In comparison, in August 2023, these same five sectors generated US$13.08 billion in exports, representing 83.8% of the total. 

Roberto Perosa, Secretary of Commerce and International Relations at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, attributed the growth in Brazilian agribusiness exports to substantial support from the Federal Government. “Brazil has gained international recognition due to the re-establishment of strong trade relations between the Brazilian government and global markets. High-quality products and strict sanitary controls have been key differentiators,” Perosa emphasized. 

KEY PRODUCTS DRIVING BRAZILIAN AGRIBUSINESS EXPORTS 

The soybean complex remains the leading export sector for Brazilian agribusiness, with exports valued at US$ 4.47 billion in August 2024. China continues to be the largest importer, purchasing 73.7% of Brazilian soybeans, equivalent to 5.9 million tonnes this August. 

China is also the leading importer of Brazilian meats, a sector that has seen impressive growth. Meat exports rose from US$2.05 billion in August 2023 to US$2.17 billion in August 2024, a 5.6% increase. Beef exports hit a record volume, totaling 245,360 tonnes (+15.7 %). 

Pork exports also rose 9.2%, reaching US$273.95 million, with quantities up 4.5% (+4,930 tonnes) and average export prices increasing by 4.6%. The growth in pork exports was driven by higher sales to countries like the Philippines (+11,550 tonnes), Japan (+5,110 tonnes), Chile (+3,970 tonnes), and Singapore (+2,970 tonnes).

As the largest producer and exporter of sugar, Brazil is on track for a record output of nearly 46 million tonnes in the 2024/2025 crop year, according to the National Supply Company. This follows another record of 45.68 million tonnes in 2023/2024. Amid this abundant supply, Brazil exported a record 3.92 million tonnes of sugar in August 2024, generating US$ 1.79 billion (-0.9%). 

AGRIBUSINESS PERFORMANCE OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS (September/2023 – August/ 2024) 

Over the past twelve months, from September 2023 to August 2024, Brazil exported US$165.76 billion in agribusiness products, a 1.6% increase compared to the US$163.19 billion exported during the previous year. This steady growth reflects the strength of Brazil’s agribusiness sector in the global market.
