Porto do Itaqui has taken a significant step to improve the security of its operations by implementing an extensive onboard monitoring system across all nine of its docking berths. This innovative measure will enhance control over maritime traffic, prevent incidents, and bolster port security, making Itaqui the first public port in Brazil to adopt such technology on such a large scale.
The new system identifies irregularities that pose real-time risks to operations, vessels, or facilities. The technology covers the maritime area around the berths, allowing for precise and continuous monitoring of ships. “With this innovation, we reinforce our commitment to safety and adopt global best practices in port management,” said Gilberto Lins, president of Porto do Itaqui.
The monitoring system also aims to prevent unauthorized vessels from approaching, deter illicit activities, and improve communication with authorities responsible for maritime security. Marão Neto, port security manager, emphasized that “the system provides a quicker response to suspicious activities, ensuring greater control and protection in the port’s operations.”
A key aspect of the monitoring system is Ilha de Guarapirá’s strategic location, which allows for effective surveillance of areas with high maritime traffic. This will enhance control over movement around the port, contributing to the overall safety of operations at Porto do Itaqui.
