Brazil’s Papaya Exports Surge 13% in 2024, Achieving Record Revenue of $37 Million

Brazilian papaya exports have increased year-to-date (up to August). According to Comex Stat, the volume shipped reached 28,000 tonnes between January and August 2024, a 13% increase compared to the previous year, while revenue amounted to $37 million, up 4%. Despite not reaching its full potential in terms of volume, revenue set a record in the historical series of Comex Stat (which began in 1997).
Brazilian papaya predominates in the European market, causing price movements observed domestically also to affect export prices. For instance, when domestic supply decreases, domestic prices rise, leading to an increase in export prices as well. Until mid-year, the supply and quality of papayas were compromised in most regions due to high temperatures that weakened the plants.
