Itajaí Port authorized by Federal Revenue Service for container operations

Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service authorized the customs clearance of Itajaí Port to the operator JBS Terminais last Friday, the 4th. This authorization allows the port complex to resume receiving container vessels at the two berths within the concession area.
The customs clearance process began in May after JBS Terminais acquired part of the concession area. The company invested over $30 million to prepare the terminal for reopening.
According to the superintendent of Itajaí Port, Fabio da Veiga, all that remains is for the decision to be published in the Federal Official Gazette before the first container-loaded vessel can dock.
“Now, it’s just a matter of publishing it in the Federal Official Gazette so that the company can open the gates and start receiving the containers destined for export, with the first vessel likely docking on the 9th,” Veiga highlighted.
Veiga also mentioned that a growth operation will take place, aiming to reach a “monthly throughput of approximately 30,000 containers by December, which is practically the maximum capacity of Itajaí Port—bringing it back to its best performance.”
Until now, only two public berths were receiving cargo. With the Federal Revenue’s authorization, the two private berths will also resume container operations.
