Brazil exported 319,000 tonnes of beef in September, a 30% increase compared to the same month last year, the Brazilian Association of Meatpackers (Abrafrigo) reported on Monday. The figure, based on data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (SECEX), set a new record for the month.

Revenue from these exports also saw significant growth—rising 28% to $1.28 billion. According to Abrafrigo, the average price of beef exported in September was $4,035 per tonne, higher than in August and approaching the $4,073 per tonne recorded in September of last year.

In the first nine months of 2024, Brazil’s beef export volume grew 33.7%, reaching 2.34 million tonnes, while export revenues increased 21%, totaling $9.39 billion.

China, traditionally the largest importer of Brazilian beef, once again topped the list of export destinations, receiving 932,300 tonnes between January and September, generating $4.11 billion in revenue.

However, China’s share of total exports, which stood at 49% in 2023, dropped to 39.7% this year. According to Abrafrigo, this decline reflects Brazil’s efforts to diversify its trading partners. The association highlighted the rise in shipments to Algeria, which received 34,200 tonnes; Mexico, with 32,200 tonnes; and Turkey, with 42,100 tonnes.

Brazil’s beef production is expected to reach approximately 10 million tonnes this year, with Abrafrigo projecting that 35% of this volume will be exported.
