In September, VLI executed its largest-ever VHP sugar shipment at the Luiz Antônio Mesquita Multimodal Port Terminal (Tiplam), surpassing the 70,000-tonne mark in a single vessel. The operation, conducted between September 19 and 22, saw a total of 70.1 thousand tonnes loaded onto a ship bound for the Asian market.
“The Centro-Atlântica Railway is the primary driver of this robust export cycle. Thanks to our strategically positioned assets along the extensive Southeast Corridor of the FCA, we can offer multimodal logistics solutions that enhance the agility, efficiency, and security of sugar shipments from states like Goiás, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo. This value-added service benefits our clients’ business while bolstering Brazil’s export growth,” says Nicolas Szwako, VLI’s Southeast Corridor Operations Director.
VLI’s sugar throughput has shown consistent gains, with the company reaching a historic milestone for the commodity during the 2023/2024 crop season, which began in April last year and concluded in March. The railways transported 6.1 million tonnes, while Tiplam handled 5.1 million tonnes, reflecting increases of 24% and 28%, respectively, over the previous 2022/2023 season, both all-time highs.
The Southeast Corridor of FCA
The Southeast Corridor of the Centro-Atlântica Railway is a high-efficiency logistics network serving import and export flows through Tiplam. Its service area covers key states like São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, and the Federal District, handling sugar, grains, and fertilizers. The corridor also includes two integrated terminals in Uberaba and Guará, where cargo is transshipped to the rail network. In addition to offering high-efficiency solutions to clients, Tiplam has positive impacts on the Baixada Santista region, as all exports move by rail, reducing local traffic and environmental impacts. Rail transport emits up to nine times less CO² than road transport, contributing to sustainability efforts in the region.
