Argentina’s Wheat Exports Set to Surge: Over 13 Million Tonnes Projected

Week 202441

Argentina, a major wheat producer and exporter—and Brazil’s largest supplier—aims to ship over 13 million tonnes this season, nearly matching the country’s total production from last year.

This projection comes from the Rosario Board of Trade, a leading source of agricultural data and market insights in Argentina. This would mark the second-highest wheat export volume in Argentina’s history if realized.

However, for this figure to hold, a clearer outlook on this year’s crop yield is necessary, especially as the harvest is set to pick up in the coming weeks.

The chart below uses data derived from DataLiner and shows Argentina’s wheat exports in containers between January 2021 and August 2024.

The Rosario Board of Trade also notes that Argentine farmers remain cautious in selling their wheat, maintaining a pace similar to last year. By October 16, 2024, only 17% of Argentina’s wheat harvest had been marketed, totaling approximately 3.5 million tonnes.
