Brazil: Pork exports expected to hit all-time high in October
Nov, 01, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202441
Brazil’s fresh pork exports are on track to set a new record in October 2024, according to government data (Secex). By the third week of the month, export volumes had reached 74,920 tonnes, at a daily average of 5,350 tonnes—a notable figure that underscores Brazil’s strong demand and growing status as a leading supplier in the global pork market.
With October having 23 business days, projections tell a total export volume of 123,080 tonnes. If accomplished, this would mark the highest monthly volume in Brazil’s historical export record for fresh pork, representing a significant milestone for the nation’s pork sector.

This surge in export volume is occurring amid high demand, driven primarily by advance orders from importers looking to secure supply for the end-of-year holiday season. Traditionally, holiday celebrations increase demand for pork in markets across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, prompting buyers to boost their orders and place them earlier than usual.
The strong export performance is fueled not only by seasonal demand but also by the enhanced competitiveness of Brazilian pork in the global market. Over recent years, the sector has invested in stringent health standards and quality certifications, reinforcing Brazil’s position as a reliable and qualified exporter able to meet the demanding requirements of markets like China and Japan.
In addition to seasonal factors, industry experts highlight Brazil’s price competitiveness in pork compared to other proteins, such as beef. For many international markets, pork stands out as an affordable and versatile option, especially in times of inflation and tighter consumer budgets worldwide.
The expected record in pork exports also reflects the impact of Brazil’s recent market expansion strategies, which include strengthening trade ties with key partners like China, Hong Kong, and Chile. These countries represent major destinations for Brazilian pork, with China remaining the largest buyer, accounting for a substantial share of exports.
The increase in pork export volumes has also contributed to the recovery of Brazil’s pork sector, which has faced economic and logistical challenges in recent years. Amid the pandemic’s disruptions, the industry adapted by repositioning itself and developing strategies to meet global demand, resulting in a steady rise in exports and reinforcing Brazil’s foothold in the global market.
The anticipated record at the end of October will not only reflect international demand but also symbolize the success of Brazil’s pork production chain. From animal rearing to processing, packaging, and export, the sector has upheld high standards of excellence and quality, which are critical to maintaining and expanding its presence in foreign markets.
