The Brazilian government welcomed India’s announcement that it has granted sanitary approval for the export of bone derivatives (“bone chips”) intended for gelatin production. The opening of this market was formalized with the signing of the International Zoosanitary Certificate (CZI).
Since 2023, five other Brazilian products have gained access to the Indian market: powdered açaí, açaí juice, farmed fish (aquaculture), wild-caught fish (extractive fishing), and avocados.
India is the 14th largest destination for Brazilian agricultural exports, with $2.03 billion in shipments during the first nine months of this year. Sugar and soybean oil were the leading products traded.
With this announcement, Brazil has reached its 196th market opening in 2023, bringing the total to 274 market openings across 61 countries since the start of the year.
This new market opening is the result of coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), with support from the agricultural attaché, the Brazilian Embassy in India, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
