Brazil secures grape export deal with China, boosting agricultural trade

Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Brazil highlighted several agreements to boost agricultural trade, including the export of Brazilian grapes to China. Grapes, a long-standing trade objective, are expected to add value to Brazil’s agricultural exports, generating jobs domestically due to required processing before export. This development marks a significant achievement for Brazil in expanding its trade footprint with China.

Negotiations for grape exports were complex, as such arrangements typically involved reciprocal trade agreements. Brazilian producers have been cautious about allowing Chinese fruit imports, fearing increased competition. Despite this, the agreement signifies progress in Brazil-China agricultural relations.
