The Ports of Paraná moved more than US$14bn in merchandise in the first half of the year. Exports accounted for 56.5% of the total value and generated US$8bn in revenue. Imports totaled US$6.15bn (43.5% of the total). With this, the terminals of Paraná had a positive balance of US$1.87bn.
According to data from the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC), the port of Paranaguá occupies third place in value generated with exports among the Brazilian public ports. “We are behind only the port of Santos, which has triple the wharf and is the largest in the country, and Itaguaí, in Rio de Janeiro, which transports iron ore and therefore has a large share in national exports”, explains Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of the public company Portos do Paraná.
Exports of soybeans
The product that generated the most revenue in the period was soy. The grain exported by the Port of Paranaguá generated more than US$2.13bn. Of this total, US$1.9bn – almost 90% – went to China. The other two main purchasers of soybeans shipped in Paraná were Bangladesh (whose trade generated revenue of about US$7m) and the Netherlands (US$59m).
The second product that generated the most revenue in the semester was poultry meat: almost US$1.9bn. China is the main destination (US$303.5m), followed by Japan (US$149.5m), and the United Arab Emirates (US$126.5m). The third-largest export product, in terms of value, was soybean bran: US$1bn, the largest buyers being the Netherlands (US$233.2m), France (US$192m), and South Korea (US$138.7m).
Also noteworthy: pulp (US$385m), maize (US$342m), and beef (US$336m).

Among the main products imported by the terminals of Paraná are fertilizers, petroleum products, and vehicles.
the ports of Paranaguá and Antonina handled US$1.33bn only in fertilizers. Considering the five varieties of imported fertilizers, the main origins were Canada, China, the United States, Morocco, and Russia.
In petroleum products, US$754.9m were imported. The derivative came mainly from the United States, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates.
