On December 1, Itaqui Port reached a historic milestone by receiving the Affinity Diva at berth 99, carrying nearly 80,000 tons of fertilizers from China. This marks the most significant single fertilizer shipment ever unloaded at the port, solidifying its position as one of Brazil’s leading fertilizer hubs, catering to the growing demands of the country’s agricultural sector. In 2024, the Port of Itaqui has already handled 3,613,260 tons of fertilizers.
A Benchmark for Logistics and Efficiency
Berth 99 hosted the Affinity Diva for a high-productivity operation. Unloading proceeded at an average rate of 500 tons per hour, utilizing shore-based cranes, significantly exceeding the regional average of 300 tons per hour.
“The efficiency achieved in this operation reflects Itaqui Port’s capacity to handle large-scale demands, providing agile and reliable solutions for our clients,” said Gervásio Reis, Logistics Manager.
Since the 1990s, Itaqui Port has been a benchmark in fertilizer logistics, serving as a critical pillar for Brazil’s supply chain in this sector.
Partnerships Strengthening the Sector
A key highlight of this operation is the collaboration among the seven clients sharing the vessel’s cargo. All are based in the Vila Maranhão Industrial District and operate in close partnership, demonstrating the maturity of Itaqui’s port community.
“This operation not only strengthens our fertilizer clients but also showcases how Itaqui grows alongside its partners, cementing its position as one of the best logistical options in the country,” added Gervásio Reis.
The fertilizers unloaded during this operation will directly support supply chains across key agricultural regions and states in Brazil, further bolstering the development of the nation’s agribusiness sector.
