Pistachio Imports Soar in Brazil, Shaping Culinary Trends in 2024

Over the past two years, pistachio imports in Brazil have skyrocketed, increasing from 350 tons to over 1,000 tons in 2024, with the year still underway.
This remarkable growth reflects a true “green wave” of pistachios, which have found their way into various food products. The nut has become a staple ingredient in sweets, savory dishes, and even the menus of restaurants and fast-food chains.
The popularity of pistachios can be seen in the diverse range of dishes and desserts featuring this ingredient. Panettones, cakes, croissants, and ice creams in various flavors have been adapted to include pistachios, resulting in an expanded and innovative offering for consumers.
Additionally, pistachios—known for their nutritional benefits—are not yet cultivated in Brazil. However, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) plans to begin cultivation in Ceará in 2027.
The world’s leading pistachio producers are the United States and Iran. This nut has a rich history, with records indicating its presence in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
