The cargo ship GREEN RIO DE JANEIRO departed on the 29th from Gaolan Port, located in the Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone in southern China, heading for Brazil. It carried a whole load of fertilizers, printing inks, and electromagnetic furnaces, marking the official inauguration of the Gaolan (Zhuhai) Port-Brazil maritime route.
The cargo ship is designed for a capacity of 77,000 tons and has an operational range of 25,000 nautical miles. COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd. operates this international route, with shipments currently scheduled every two months.
Zhuhai, a city adjacent to Macau, shares significant economic complementarities with Brazil in the agriculture, mining, and manufacturing sectors. Leveraging Gaolan Port, the Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone has established this new financial and trade route with Latin America, injecting fresh momentum into its integration with global industrial and supply chains.
The newly inaugurated international maritime route is expected to significantly reduce shipping costs and transportation time between the two regions. It also opens up new opportunities for trade, investment, and technological exchange between Zhuhai and northern Brazil.
For instance, Zhuhai Zhonglian Latin America Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., based in the Gaolan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone, anticipates that the new route will reduce freight costs by 15% and save 7 days in delivery time. This will notably enhance the company’s competitiveness in the Brazilian market and strengthen cooperation with local suppliers and related companies.
