Brazil Eyes Growth in Food Exports to Mexico Following Renewal of PACIC Program

The Brazilian federal government and exporters are optimistic about sustaining the strong pace of food shipments to Mexico after the renewal of the country’s Anti-Inflation and Shortage Package (PACIC, in Spanish). This Mexican program, designed to support household consumption, waives import taxes on several staple food items.
In a statement released on Thursday (January 2), Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that the PACIC renewal is crucial for maintaining the export flow of key food products to Mexico, particularly poultry, pork, milk, and beans, where Brazil has a strong foothold in international trade.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to continue strengthening and expanding our trade partnership with Mexico by providing competitive Brazilian products that contribute to food and nutritional security,” said Agriculture Minister Carlos Fávaro in the release.
Mexico is currently the 7th largest importer of Brazilian chicken and ranks as the 10th most important destination for Brazilian pork exports.

During the first 11 months of 2024, the program facilitated the import of 205,000 tonnes of Brazilian chicken (+18.8% compared to the same period in 2023) and 42,000 tonnes of pork (+49.7%), generating combined revenue of $620 million, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).
“The strong relationship between our countries and the solid partnerships forged between Brazilian producers and Mexican importers suggest that the positive momentum for Brazilian chicken and pork exports to Mexico will continue throughout 2025,” noted ABPA President Ricardo Santin.
