Brazilian Corn Exports Off to Slow Start in January 2025, but Outlook Stays Positive

The Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) released preliminary data on Brazilian corn exports for January 2025 on Monday (13). As of now, exports of unprocessed corn (excluding sweet corn) have reached 1,322,877.4 tonnes, representing 27.12% of the total exported in January 2024 (4,876,296.6 tonnes).
The daily average shipment volume during the first seven business days of the month stood at 188,982.5 tonnes, reflecting a 14.7% decline compared to the daily average of January 2024, which was 221,649.8 tonnes.
Despite the slower start, Raphael Bulascoschi, Corn Market Intelligence Analyst at StoneX, remains optimistic. “The outlook for Brazil’s corn export sector in 2025 hinges on the stronger return of China as a buyer, much like in 2023. While trade was subdued in 2024, China imported over 16 million tonnes of Brazilian corn in 2023. If this trend resumes, shipments could see renewed momentum,” he explained.
The chart below uses DataLiner-derived data on corn export to compare Brazilian shipments in the period between January-November 2021 through January-November 2024.

Revenue and Pricing
In terms of revenue, Brazil has generated $287.564 million so far, compared to $1.117 billion recorded for the entire month of January 2024. This equates to a daily average of $41.080 million, a 19.1% drop from last year’s daily average of $50.804 million.
The average price paid per tonne of Brazilian corn has also decreased by 5.2%, falling from $229.20 in January 2024 to $217.40 in January 2025.
With the potential rebound in Chinese demand and adjustments in global corn prices, Brazil’s corn export market remains cautious yet optimistic for the months ahead.
