Porto Central and the Norwegian company Equinor have signed a contract for oil transshipment operations at the liquid bulk terminal of the port complex.
Driven by Brazil’s growing oil production, the demand for infrastructure to support ship-to-ship (STS) oil transfer operations is expected to rise significantly in the coming years.
In its first phase, Porto Central is scheduled to begin operations by December 2027, developing a modern infrastructure with a licensed capacity of up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day. Construction of the liquid bulk terminal began in December 2024 and will accommodate large vessels, such as Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs).
This infrastructure will provide economies of scale, lower logistical costs, and greater predictability and reliability in operations, enhancing client efficiency and safety.
Beyond oil transshipment, Porto Central is being designed as a diversified energy hub. The complex will feature infrastructure for storing and handling other liquid bulk products and dedicated areas for renewable energy projects, reinforcing its importance as a strategic point for various segments of the energy sector in Brazil and the global market.
