Brazil Kicks Off 2025 with Record-Breaking Seedless Mini Watermelon Exports
Feb, 14, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202506
Brazil’s seedless mini watermelon exports got off to a strong start in 2025, setting new records in both volume and revenue. According to Comex Stat, more than 24,000 tonnes of the fruit were shipped in January—a 9% increase from December and an impressive 88% surge compared to January 2024. Export revenue also soared, exceeding $14 million (FOB) for the month, up 68% from the previous year.
This marks the highest January export volume and revenue in Comex Stat’s historical series, which dates back to 1997. The surge is largely attributed to a decline in production across key Central American suppliers, including Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama. According to Fresh Plaza, these countries have scaled back cultivation due to adverse weather conditions and farming challenges.
So far, shipments for the 2024/25 season (Aug–Jan) are already 35% higher than in the previous cycle. With this momentum, exports are expected to remain strong in the coming months, with further growth on the horizon.
