Trump Confirms Tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China Will Take Effect as Scheduled

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday (27) that the proposed tariffs on Mexico and Canada will take effect on March 4 as planned, alongside an additional 10% tariff on China.

“The proposed tariffs, scheduled to take effect on MARCH 4, will, in fact, take effect as planned,” Trump wrote on TruthSocial. “China will also be hit with an additional 10% tariff on that date. The reciprocal tariff date of April 2 remains in place and will be enforced.”

Earlier this month, Trump had temporarily suspended the tariffs on Mexico and Canada just hours before they were set to take effect, granting the United States’ two largest trade partners a one-month extension.

However, in his post, Trump confirmed the tariffs would now be implemented, citing continued concerns over drug trafficking. “Drugs are still pouring into our country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels,” he stated.

The U.S. government will also impose the additional 10% tariff on China on March 4, Trump reiterated, adding that his reciprocal tariff plan remains on track for April 2.

Trump’s latest remarks appear to contradict statements he made on Wednesday, when he suggested the tariffs on Canada and Mexico would take effect on April 2, hinting at a possible delay.
