India Opens Market to Brazilian Lemons, Oranges, and Tangerines

Brazil has agreed with the Indian government to export five citrus fruits: Tahiti lime, Sicilian lemon, sweet orange, tangerine, and similar products. This move strengthens trade relations between the two countries, including exports of goods like açaí, fish, and avocados.

India, currently the 10th largest destination for Brazilian agricultural exports, has already imported products such as soybeans and sugar, totaling over USD 3 billion in the past year. Including citrus fruits is expected to further diversify Brazil’s export portfolio, especially with higher value-added goods.

This development is part of a broader effort that began in 2023, with Brazil securing 355 new market access opportunities. The deal was negotiated by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa), highlighting the role of international partnerships in expanding Brazilian exports.
