Port of Pelotas Receives New Buoys to Strengthen Nautical Signaling
May, 05, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202519
This week, the Port of Pelotas received a new batch of equipment to enhance the waterway’s nautical signaling system. Ten blind and four lighted buoys were delivered and will be used to improve navigation marking in the region. The equipment is part of the nautical signaling maintenance contract coordinated by Portos RS.
The buoys, made of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), were acquired to replace units damaged by weather, climate conditions, and vessel traffic. Unlike the lighted buoys, which are equipped with night signaling, the blind buoys have no space for attaching lanterns.
The nautical signaling system of the public ports managed by Portos RS currently includes 260 buoys distributed along a 345-kilometer stretch. Since the beginning of the contract with the specialized company responsible for the services, 24 buoy restorations, 17 repositionings, 16 repairs, and the replacement of 6 signal lights have already been completed.
Alongside the delivery of the new equipment, a rapid boat inspection is being carried out on Lake Guaíba to assess the current signaling conditions and prepare for the next preventive maintenance campaign.
