Brazilian Egg Exports Surge 271% in April Amid U.S. Bird Flu Outbreak

Brazilian egg exports jumped 271% to 4,300 metric tons in April, driven by strong demand from importers in the United States and Japan, according to data released on Monday (May 12) by ABPA (Brazilian Animal Protein Association).

The United States ramped up imports of eggs from Turkey, Brazil, and South Korea to boost supply amid an avian influenza outbreak that has killed nearly 170 million chickens, turkeys, and other birds since 2022.

According to ABPA, Brazil’s egg shipments brought in US$10.57 million (R$60 million) in April, a 253% increase in revenue.

“April continued the positive momentum for Brazilian egg exports, with growing presence in high-value markets with strict sanitary standards,” said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, highlighting sales to the U.S. and Japan.

Among top destinations, the United States led Brazil’s egg exports last month, receiving 2,800 tons, which generated US$6.3 million (R$35.8 million) in revenue.

In the first four months of 2025, Brazil exported 13,000 tons of eggs, an increase of almost 134% compared to the same period last year.

Revenue during that period reached US$28.3 million (R$160.7 million), up 153% year-over-year.
