Paraná’s Fish Exports Surge 4,600% in Five Years

The Brazilian state of Paraná has recorded an impressive surge in fish exports, reaching US$ 11.15 million in revenue during the first four months of 2025 — an increase of over 4,600% compared to the same period in 2020, when earnings totaled just US$ 233,200. The data was published in the Agricultural Situation Report by the Department of Rural Economics (Deral) of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply (Seab).

Significant Growth in Export Volume
The volume of fish exports also rose sharply. From January to April 2025, Paraná exported 2,700 metric tons of fish — a 1,300% increase from the 187 tons exported in the first four months of 2020. This also marks a 43% increase over the same period in 2024.

Paraná’s Expanding Role in National Exports
Paraná has steadily increased its share in Brazil’s national fish exports. In 2020, the state accounted for just over 1% of the country’s fish export volume. By 2024, this share had climbed to 11.8%. The main product driving this growth is tilapia, which accounts for nearly 90% of Paraná’s fish exports. The United States is the leading destination, absorbing virtually all of the state’s fish shipments.
