Jordan and Kuwait Ease Poultry Ban on Brazil Due to Avian Flu

Jordan and Kuwait have eased restrictions on Brazilian poultry imports, now applying their bans exclusively to the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture announced on Monday (June 2), following a diplomatic mission led by Brazilian authorities.
Initially, both countries had banned poultry imports from all of Brazil due to a confirmed case of avian influenza at a commercial farm in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul. With the new regionalized restriction, the number of countries maintaining a complete ban on Brazilian poultry exports has dropped to 21, according to the Ministry.
“Rapid containment measures, combined with open dialogue with our partners, are allowing us to reverse export restrictions based on scientific criteria and mutual trust,” said Deputy Secretary for Trade and International Relations Marcel Moreira in an official statement.
Moreira led the diplomatic delegation, which also visited Algeria and Tunisia last week. In addition to discussing the government’s efforts to control avian flu, the group explored opportunities for technical cooperation, export expansion, and sanitary agreements.
