The bidding notice for the deepening dredging of the Port of Santos channel to 16 meters (currently ranging between 14 and 15 meters, depending on the location) will be launched in the second half of this year. In parallel, rock removal (known as “derrocagem”) will begin at 33 points along the access channel—this is the first stage before sediment dredging in the estuary can commence.
“The rock removal process is currently under document review, and the expectation is that work will begin in the early second semester. Meanwhile, the project to deepen the channel to 16 meters is progressing within APS,” stated the Santos Port Authority (APS) in a press release.

When questioned, the port authority did not disclose the name of the company awarded the rock removal contract nor the value of the service. The company will sign an 18-month contract, assuming responsibility for preparing the basic and executive projects, as well as removing an estimated 10,000 cubic meters (m³) of rocky material.
