The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has reported a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a flock of domestic birds in the municipality of Campinápolis, Mato Grosso (MT). In a statement issued on Sunday (June 8), the ministry announced that laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis on Saturday (June 7).
This is the fourth outbreak of the disease detected in subsistence poultry in Brazil.
Sanitary authorities have implemented surveillance and virus eradication measures within a 10-kilometer radius of the infected flock. According to the Ministry, there are no commercial poultry farms within that safety perimeter.
“The occurrence of a confirmed HPAI outbreak in subsistence poultry does not impose restrictions on international trade of Brazilian poultry products. Consumption and exports remain safe,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry also emphasized that this outbreak does not affect the 28-day sanitary void period established after disinfection in Montenegro (RS), where a case of bird flu was confirmed in commercial poultry.
