Paraná’s Automobile Exports Rise 73.7% in Early 2025

Automobile exports from the Brazilian state of Paraná surged by 73.7% between January and May 2025 compared to the same period last year. In absolute terms, sales jumped from USD 172 million in the first five months of 2024 to USD 299 million this year. The data comes from Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) and was compiled and released by Ipardes in a report on Tuesday (June 10).

The sharp increase in automobile exports is primarily attributed to rising sales to South American markets, especially Argentina, which saw a 464% increase in imports from Paraná, rising from USD 32 million to USD 182 million. Other notable gains were seen in exports to Colombia (49%), Uruguay (38%), and Chile (28%).

According to Ipardes president Jorge Callado, the strong export figures highlight the scale of Paraná’s automotive industry. “The state’s automotive sector — including the production of cars, trucks, buses, cabins, and parts — generates around BRL 58 billion in annual revenue and employs over 40,000 people, making it a national standout,” he said.

Other Export Highlights

The export boom extended beyond the automotive sector, with double-digit growth in food and timber products. Among them:

• Fresh beef exports rose 79%, from USD 40 million to USD 73 million.
• Fresh pork saw a 71% increase, jumping from USD 129 million to USD 221 million.
• Crude soybean oil exports climbed 70%, from USD 125 million to USD 213 million.
• Plywood exports increased 13%, from USD 232 million to USD 262 million.
• Cereal exports grew 12%, from USD 251 million to USD 281 million.
• Instant coffee rose 34%, and processed chicken meat rose 18% compared to 2024.

“These strong figures reflect the diversification of our industrial base and the close collaboration between the state government and productive sectors enabled by public policy. They are vital numbers for Paraná’s trade balance, which plays an important role in generating foreign exchange for Brazil,” Callado added.

Paraná Ranks as Brazil’s 5th Largest Exporter

The report also shows that Paraná ranks fifth among Brazil’s largest exporting states, with total exports of USD 9.2 billion, making it the top exporter in the South Region. The leading states are:

1. São Paulo – USD 27.1 billion
2. Minas Gerais – USD 17.9 billion
3. Rio de Janeiro – USD 17.1 billion
4. Mato Grosso – USD 11.9 billion
5. Paraná – USD 9.2 billion

Top export destinations for Paraná were:

• China – USD 2 billion
• Argentina – USD 714 million
• United States – USD 609 million
• Mexico – USD 374 million
• United Arab Emirates – USD 273 million

Positive Trade Balance

Paraná’s trade balance for the first five months of the year shows a surplus of USD 1.058 billion, with USD 8.1 billion in imports. The state’s businesses focused mainly on importing fertilizers and plant nutrients (USD 1.084 billion) and oils and fuels (USD 571 million) during the period.
