Despite being a period of increased domestic supply, Brazilian rice imports rose in May, reaching the highest volume since February 2025 and surpassing export volumes, according to data from Secex analyzed by Cepea.

The average values of both imports and exports were higher than domestic prices. Brazil imported 126.12 thousand tonnes of rice (paddy equivalent) in May 2025—a 26.53% increase compared to the previous month but 10.06% lower than in May 2024.

Exports totaled 92.16 thousand tonnes, representing a 9.78% increase from April but 10.76% below the level recorded in the same month of 2024.

Meanwhile, the domestic market has shown low liquidity, according to Cepea. Among buyers, behavior has varied in recent days: some have remained active but offered lower prices, while others have stayed on the sidelines, citing difficulties in passing on costs and choosing not to build inventories, as prices have been falling week by week.
