Solid and Liquid Bulk Reach Highest Throughput for April

Brazilian ports recorded their highest cargo throughput ever for April, reaching 107.6 million tons, a 1.12% increase. This marks the second consecutive month of a monthly record in total port cargo throughput.

Data from the Waterway Statistics of the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (ANTAQ) also show another April record: the movement of solid and liquid bulk cargo.

In April, 65.1 million tons of solid bulk were handled, representing a 2.27% growth, and 25.7 million tons of liquid bulk, a 1.94% increase. General cargo, in turn, totaled 5.2 million tons, representing a 6.8% rise.

Container throughput totaled 11.5 million tons (-8.54%)—equivalent to 1.1 million TEUs. Of this total, 8.3 million tons were moved in long-haul navigation and 3.2 million in cabotage.

Commodities and Navigation

In April, the cargoes with the highest percentage growth were Wood, with an 82.46% increase and 0.6 million tons handled; Fertilizers, up 20.13% with 3.3 million tons; and Salt, which rose 16.62% and totaled 0.7 million tons.

Regarding navigation, long-haul cargo handling reached 76.6 million tons in April 2025 (+1.71%), cabotage totaled 23.3 million (-0.26%), and inland navigation moved 7.6 million tons (-0.07%).

Public Ports

Public ports handled 37.8 million tons of cargo in April 2025. This figure represents a 3.79% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year.

Among the 20 busiest public ports in the country, the one with the highest percentage growth in April was the Port of Areia Branca (RN). The increase was 82.32% compared to April 2024, reaching 0.4 million tons handled.

Private Terminals

Authorized private terminals saw a 4% increase in cargo handling compared to April of last year. The sector handled 69.8 million tons.

Among the 20 busiest private-use terminals (TUPs) in April, the one with the highest year-on-year growth was the Ponta Ubu Maritime Terminal (ES), with an increase of 62.4%. The terminal handled 1.3 million tons of cargo.
