A work plan is being developed to enable the weekly stuffing of up to 70 containers of cotton at the Port of Pecém in Ceará, involving producers, trading companies, road transporters from the Matopiba region, and port terminal operators. This was the main outcome of a meeting held on Wednesday (June 11) between the Bahia Association of Cotton Producers (Abapa) and representatives from the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex.

Cotton exports have been on Pecém’s radar for several years. The goal is to enable direct shipments of cotton fiber produced in Brazil’s Northeast to Asian markets and to bring in inputs on the return leg, lowering the sector’s dependence on the Port of Santos and offering a new logistical alternative for cotton growers in Bahia.
