Santos Brasil has just recorded the largest port operation ever carried out during a single vessel call at its container terminal in Santos (SP), Tecon Santos, located on the port’s left bank. The record was set during the loading and unloading operation of the Maersk Santana vessel, which arrived from Asia on June 22 and is part of the SEAS3 service operated by CMA CGM and Maersk. A total of 7,996 moves were performed, including loading, unloading, and repositioning of containers within the vessel.
“This is a historic operation, representing nearly 14,000 TEUs handled in a single vessel call. Although we don’t yet have consolidated data from all Brazilian terminals, everything indicates this may also be the largest single-call operation ever recorded in the country,” said Bruno Stupello, Director of Port Terminal Operations at Santos Brasil.
The high cargo volume required an intense and strategically planned logistical flow to ensure smooth operations. The milestone surpassed the previous record set just a few days earlier, on June 7, with 6,133 containers, also part of the SEAS3 service. Since its debut in May this year, SEAS3 has become one of the terminal’s most significant services by volume, having already broken three previous records.
Following the operation in Santos, the Maersk Santana departed directly for Asia, as Tecon Santos is the only SEAS3 stop in Brazil—further reinforcing the terminal’s strategic importance for Brazil’s foreign trade.
Tecon Santos is the largest container terminal in South America and one of the biggest and most efficient in Latin America. In the first quarter of the year, it handled 341,690 containers, a 15.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Long-haul traffic increased by 14.9% due to rising imports and exports, while cabotage volume grew by 17.3% year-over-year.
