The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved financing of R$445.2 million for Marcopolo to produce passenger transport vehicles and bus bodies for export to countries in South America and Africa.
The credit was granted through the BNDES Exim Pré-Embarque Direto program, a modality that provides funds directly to the exporter before the shipment of goods. Headquartered in Caxias do Sul (RS), Marcopolo manufactures buses, bodies, and components at 11 facilities, including three in Brazil and eight abroad.
Marcopolo has received BNDES support in foreign trade for over 30 years. The company has signed 248 operations, totaling more than R$ 5 billion.
“The partnership between BNDES and Marcopolo has been fundamental in boosting our competitiveness in the international market, encouraging export growth, job creation, and our technological development in Brazil. We are a Brazilian company, a leader in the production of bus bodies, with a strong global presence and products exported to over 100 countries,” said Marcopolo’s CFO, Pablo Freitas Motta, in a statement.
In the past two years, BNDES has approved five financing operations for the production of buses and bus bodies under the BNDES Exim Pré-Embarque program, totaling approximately R$ 741 million. The bank also financed the exports of vehicles and bodies to various clients and countries through the Exim Pós-embarque credit line, amounting to approximately R$ 75 million.
“Support for exports by Brazilian companies is aligned with President Lula’s strategic goal of ensuring the competitiveness of Brazilian industry abroad, promoting foreign currency inflow into the country, and modernizing the economy. With this strategy, we strengthen high value-added sectors that generate quality jobs and income,” said BNDES President Aloizio Mercadante in a statement.
