Agriculture: Agribusiness Exports Drop 3.6% in June Compared to June 2024

Brazilian exports of agricultural products reached USD 14.615 billion in June, according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture’s Secretariat of Trade and International Relations. This value is 3.6% lower than the USD 15.155 billion recorded in June 2024, representing a reduction of USD 540 million. Agribusiness accounted for 50.1% of Brazil’s total exports last month, compared to 52.7% in June 2024.

The decline was mainly driven by the export price index, which fell 2.9% year-over-year, the Secretariat explained. In addition to the drop in average export prices, there was a 0.6% decrease in the volume shipped. “The decline in international prices as well as in export volumes of some of the country’s main export products explains the negative performance of the agribusiness trade balance in June 2025,” the note stated.

Last month, the top five export sectors in Brazilian agribusiness were:

• Soy complex (USD 6.204 billion, -12.9%)
• Meat (USD 2.431 billion, +20.8%)
• Sugar and ethanol complex (USD 1.519 billion, -4.1%)
• Forest products (USD 1.425 billion, -7.4%)
• Coffee (USD 1.024 billion, +17.7%)

Together, these sectors accounted for 86.2% of total agribusiness exports in June, compared to 86.7% the year before. “In other words, there was a slight diversification in the export mix during the period. The decline was largely due to reduced soybean complex exports, partly offset by an increase in meat exports,” noted the Secretariat.

Among destinations, China remained the top importer of Brazilian agribusiness products in June, followed by the European Union and the United States. Shipments to China fell 2.2% in June, totaling USD 5.88 billion. China accounted for 40.3% of Brazil’s agricultural exports last month, a 2-percentage-point increase year-over-year, with soybeans as the leading product.

In June, Brazil spent USD 1.545 billion on agricultural imports, down 0.9% from the same month in 2024. The main agro imports were wheat, paper, palm oil, and salmon. “There were also imports of various inputs essential to agricultural production in Brazil: fertilizers (USD 1.45 billion; +10.7%); agrochemicals (USD 562.48 million; +50.2%); animal nutrition (USD 279.67 million; +20.0%),” the technical note highlighted.
