Crane catches fire at Pecém Port

A fire broke out early Sunday morning, July 27, at the Pecém Complex. Videos taken at the scene show flames engulfing one of the port’s MHC-type cranes in the Metropolitan Region of Fortaleza, with thick black smoke quickly spreading. “It’s going to fall, it’s collapsing,” says the person filming, capturing the moment part of the crane’s structure gives way.

No injuries or environmental damage

At the time of the incident, an operator was inside the crane but was promptly and safely rescued. The fire brigade at the Port of Pecém, with support from Ceará’s Military Fire Department (CBMCE), was able to bring the flames under control.

According to a statement from the Pecém Complex press office, there were no injuries or reports of environmental damage. The losses were limited to material damages.
